Pittsburgh Chapter - American Guild of Organists
Level III of the Academy is designed for the post-high school student or adult who wishes to become an organist. Twenty-four 45-minute lessons normally from September to May with an organ teacher chosen by the POA.
Audition Requirements:
Applicants who wish to be admitted to Level III should submit a CD or sound file containing:
If auditioning on piano:
A two-part invention by J. S. Bach. A sonatina or equivalent piece. A four-part hymn. If auditioning on organ:
One of the "little" Preludes and Fugues by J. S. Bach or a short chorale prelude from the Orgelbüchlein. A piece in contrasting style. A four-part hymn with pedals.
Award Benefits:
Level III students will receive twenty-four 45-minute lessons normally from September to May with an organ teacher chosen by the POA.
Season tickets for the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh. Student membership in the Pittsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, including a subscription to The American Organist magazine. Possible financial assistance in the amount of $300 to attend an AGO convention or Pipe Organ Encounter. Complimentary dinners at Pittsburgh Chapter AGO meetings. Terms of Award:
Each student agrees to provide all necessary materials (organ shoes, music, transportation, etc.) and to make arrangements for a practice organ. The student commits to adequate preparation for lessons during the term of study. Students will be encouraged to perform at an AGO meeting.
